City closing in on Bacary Sagna and Fernando

Premier League champions Manchester City are hoping to finalize moves for FC Porto midfielder Fernando and Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna before the Frenchman takes the field for France at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Brazilian has not been included in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side for the World Cup on home soil and City is thought to have agreed a fee worth in the region of £ 14 million with the Portuguese giants for the player. He is expected to be in Manchester later this week for his medical before any move can be formally announced.

The signing of the Brazilian defensive midfielder could be one of the biggest moves for the Premier League giants as they look for cover for Yaya Toure and Fernandinho in the heart of their midfield. The 26 year old was very close to securing a move to the North West back in January but the two clubs couldn’t come to an agreement and the move fell through.

The move for French right back Bacary Sagna, however, could prove to be difficult and time consuming with the Arsenal defender in Brazil with the France squad for the World Cup. He has already announced his desire to leave the Gunners after his contract expired and according to reports, has agreed terms over a move to City.

Manchester United was also keen on the player as they seek a right back as a cover for Rafael but if reports in England are to be believed, City are almost certain to win the race for his signature with any formal announcement expected only after his duties with France at the World Cup.

City will reportedly offer Bacary Sagna a weekly wage of £ 130,000 to sign for them as they look to provide competition for Pablo Zabaleta.
