Bacary Sagna´s contract with Manchester City reached it´s end in the beginning of June and the English Premier League club did not offer the French defender a contract extension which means that Sagna has now turned into a free agent.

After having performed with the Manchester City jersey for 3 years, BacarySagna has cut his ties at the Etihad Stadium and the Frenchman said:

“It has been a privilege to play for this football club. I have enjoyed every moment of my City career and will look back on my time at City fondly. I would like to thank the staff, players and fans for making my three years so memorable.”

With the summer transfer window opening on July 1, it´s the moment for BacarySagna to continue extending his playing career by joining another club and taking into consideration the fact that Sagna is 34 year old; he is reaching the final few years of his playing days.

Despite having such an elevated age, the Frenchman is already being rumored to be in the radar of various clubs. Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Marseille have all been linked with BacarySagna as they are rumored to be interested in securing the services of the experienced defender who is available especially now that he has recently been released by Manchester City and became a free agent.

Whether or not BacarySagna does decide to join another club is something that remains to be seen and time will tell. The summer transfer window will open on July 1st and it might be the last opportunity of Sagna to perform at a high level with a top club before he decides to hang up his boots and at the age of 34, his time to retire is likely to be right around the corner.
