Manchester City have been at the receiving end of several unfair decisions

Manchester City have been at the receiving end of several unfair decisions from the referees according to the club’s defender Bacary Sagna.

City have been highly inconsistent with regard to results. It has contributed to the club failing to get past Arsenal or Leicester City in the league table. City have one of the strongest squads in the division, but their failure to get the right results leave them in a four way fight for the league title. Tottenham can also be considered as challengers for the title this season, as they are only a few points away from the top.

City’s latest disappointment came in the League Cup against Everton when the club suffered a 2-1 loss in the first leg. There is still opportunity for City to turn around the situation and progress to the final, but it is a major setback nonetheless. Everton would not have been able to get this win had it not been for a poor refereeing decision. Sagna felt that there were a number of questionable decisions by the referee in the game. However, such controversies have not been only in this specific match but throughout the campaign.

Striker Sergio Aguero could have easily been awarded a penalty after being clearly brought down in the box by Everton. “It’s not the first time. In the beginning we didn’t say anything but now – it was the case against Leicester with Agüero [as well]. The whole team are being unfairly treated. I don’t know why because it isn’t the first time it’s happened this season. Mistakes are natural – they [referees] are human beings – but at the end of the day we’re not getting the penalties – against Everton, Leicester and many other games,” said Sagna. The 32-year-old has largely been a first-team regular and has made 27 appearances in all competitions.
