City closing in on Bacary Sagna and Fernando

Premier League champions Manchester City are hoping to finalize moves for FC Porto midfielder Fernando and Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna before the Frenchman takes the field for France at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Brazilian has not been included in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side for the World Cup on home soil and City is thought to have agreed a fee worth in the region of £ 14 million with the Portuguese giants for the player. He is expected to be in Manchester later this week for his medical before any move can be formally announced.

He is expected to be in Manchester later this week for his medical before any move can be formally announced.

The signing of the Brazilian defensive midfielder could be one of the biggest moves for the Premier League giants as they look for cover for Yaya Toure and Fernandinho in the heart of their midfield. The 26 year old was very close to securing a move to the North West back in January but the two clubs couldn’t come to an agreement and the move fell through.

The move for French right back Bacary Sagna, however, could prove to be difficult and time consuming with the Arsenal defender in Brazil with the France squad for the World Cup. He has already announced his desire to leave the Gunners after his contract expired and according to reports, has agreed terms over a move to City.

Manchester United was also keen on the player as they seek a right back as a cover for Rafael but if reports in England are to be believed, City are almost certain to win the race for his signature with any formal announcement expected only after his duties with France at the World Cup.

City will reportedly offer Bacary Sagna a weekly wage of £ 130,000 to sign for them as they look to provide competition for Pablo Zabaleta.

Sagny Admits He Is Set to Leave Arsenal

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has admitted for the first time that he is set to leave the club at the end of the season. The defender is out of contract in a few weeks and talks for a new contract have reached a deadline. He is thought to be holding out for a two-year contract worth around £ 100,000 per week. Arsenal are believed to be not ready to match either of those requests. Hence, the 31-year-old could leave the club on a free transfer with the likes of Manchester city and Chelsea ready to pounce on him.

Hence, the 31-year-old could leave the club on a free transfer with the likes of Manchester city and Chelsea ready to pounce on him.

Sagna has proven in the last few years that he is one of the finest right backs in the country. He has been a steady player for Arsenal since signing for the club in 2007 from Auxerre. Despite the contract situation and the fact that he is about to sign for a rival club, Sagna is set to start for Arsenal in the FA Cup final against Hull City. This match presents a great opportunity for the club to end the nine-year wait for a trophy. French outfit PSG are also thought to be tracking the situation.

Arsenal have announced deals for several players like Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey.

“I’m out of contract, as everyone knows. I still consider myself as an Arsenal player at present. But actually we had a small problem to agree [with the club], and I don’t think stay at Arsenal at the end of the season,” said the defender ahead of the FA Cup final. Arsene Wenger has been stating up until now that he was confident that Sagna would sign a new deal. Despite coming up with several career threatening injuries in the last few years, Sagna’s position at the club has not been threatened up until now.
