Les Bleus started the tournament as one among the favourites for the global crown and they duly delivered after they secured a comfortable 4-2 triumph in Sunday’s final at the Luzhniki Stadium.
“I had an immense privilege to live through this as a player 20 years ago and it was in France, so it will be marked in my memory forever, but what the players did together today is just as beautiful. I have a son who is 22 years old. When we were world champions he was too young to understand and today there are young people who have this happiness to be able to live this event with us.”
Over the course of the campaign, France were particularly tentative in terms of their attacking brand of football but they managed to reserve their best for the final where they secured a 4-2 win over Croatia. With the result, the European heavyweights have won their second World Cup crown and the focus should now switch to Euro 2020 where they should fare well with the current crop of young players.
Meanwhile, the same cannot be said of Croatia, who could have huge task on their hands to replicate the success of the 2018 World Cup. Much of their golden generation are aged 29 and above and their progress in the future tournaments may depend on whether they can make a seamless transition without any setbacks.

Bacary Sagna does not fancy Arsene Wenger managing France
France international Bacary Sagna does not think Arsene Wenger won’t enter into national team management in the future. The 68-year-old ended his 22-year reign with Arsenal last season and he has since declared that he has no plans of retiring from the game. As such, he has been tipped to succeed France boss Didier Deschamps or take up a technical role with his national team but Sagna does not believe this will happen.

Since leaving the Gunners, Wenger has been associated with a number of high-profile clubs including Real Madrid but the Frenchman has suggested that he would like to work in an environment where he can be tested. Nevertheless, the experienced head coach may take a sabbatical for the 2018/19 campaign with vacancies at most elite outfits already occupied.
Wenger had ended the final campaign with the Gunners in a low-key manner as they finished sixth in the Premier League but there is a sense of optimism around the club with the appointment of Unai Emery. The 46-year-old has shown a genuine focus on bolstering the defensive options within the Gunners squad and the board are likely to expect him to guide them back to the top four. Arsenal were constantly in the Champions League positions under Wenger barring the past two seasons.

Sky Sports pundit urges Jack Wilshere to leave Arsenal
Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has urged Jack Wilshere to leave Arsenal, now that he has managed to overcome his long-term injury concerns. The England international recently experienced his most productive season in the Gunners with 38 appearances across all competitions but this was simply not sufficient to earn him an England recall for the World Cup.

Wilshere currently has just one month left on his existing contract with the club and talks over an extension are still at the initial stage with the midfielder wanting to know who would succeed Arsene Wenger. Nevertheless, the Gunners are said to have the advantage with very few clubs interested in the midfielder and they remain optimistic of committing him upon the arrival of a new head coach.
As per reports, Mikel Arteta is the prime candidate to succeed Arsene Wenger at the helm and the Spaniard is understood to have already held preliminary talks with the north London club. As such, the Gunners may need to sort out the necessary formalities with Manchester City, where he is the assistant coach before making an official confirmation over his appointment. Arteta plyed his trade for the Gunners between 2011 and 2016 and during his time, he got the chance to wear the captain’s armband.
