Gabriele Marcotti urges Manchester United to sanction Paul Pogba’s sale

ESPN pundit Gabriele Marcotti has urged Manchester United to part ways with midfielder Paul Pogba and find a replacement before the transfer deadline next week. The France international has been regularly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer and reports have emerged that Los Blancos may eventually come up with a big-money bid for the 26-year-old.

Speaking on ESPN, Marcotti cited that the Red Devils should utilise the remaining days of the Premier League transfer window to pursue a replacement for Pogba, who won’t have second thoughts of joining Los Blancos, should the opportunity arise. He added that the Red Devils may even risk losing the midfielder after the transfer deadline, should Los Blancos tempt them with an insane offer.

He added that the Red Devils may even risk losing the midfielder after the transfer deadline, should Los Blancos tempt them with an insane offer.

He said: “If the opportunity arises and it makes sense for United, I don’t think he’d [Pogba] necessarily turn down an opportunity to join Real Madrid. If they’re clever about it, they [United] might want to do some of their business before the transfer window shuts here in England – obviously well before it shuts in Spain – simply because you don’t want to be in a situation where Real Madrid rock up with some insane offer for Pogba that you can’t turn down.”

The Premier League transfer window closes on August 8 and that presents the teams with a potential disadvantage when compared to the Spanish clubs , who have another three weeks to complete their business. At present, United have been touted to land the signature of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio and reports indicate that he could act as a direct replacement for Pogba.

Should the deal not materialise, the Frenchman could be forced to wait until January at the least to leave Old Trafford, considering the Red Devils won’t make the bizarre decision to sanction his sale without a replacement at hand.

Dimitar Berbatov wants Paul Pogba to stay put with Manchester United

Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov is hopeful that Paul Pogba remains with the Red Devils beyond the European transfer window. The France international has been heavily tipped to make the move to Real Madrid this summer and the deal remains a possibility with the Spanish transfer window closing only on September 2.

Speaking for Betfair, the ex-Bulgaria international highlighted the qualities of the former Juventus man, who was sensational during the second half of the Red Devils’ 4-0 league win over Chelsea last weekend. He added that the Frenchman is a special player, who has the perfect interpretation of the game and only a package of around £200m may tempt the Red Devils to sanction his sale.

He added that the Frenchman is a special player, who has the perfect interpretation of the game and only a package of around £200m may tempt the Red Devils to sanction his sale.

He said: “Pogba’s perfect pass to Marcus Rashford for United’s third goal was what I call ‘pure football’. When I played for United, Michael Carrick would get the ball and his first thought was always to play it forward. He knew exactly where I was and there are plenty of examples of him giving me the ball to score a goal. Special players save their energy for the exact right moment. If United receive a bid from Madrid in the next fortnight in the region of £200m, then the transfer will happen. But I hope Pogba stays at United and I don’t think Zidane will quit Madrid if he fails to sign his compatriot.”

Pogba’s future has been a regular discussion point since the start of the summer after the midfielder acknowledged that he may consider a new challenge elsewhere. While there has been no progress over a transfer agreement with Los Blancos, there remain doubts regarding his future after he recently admitted that there are still question marks over his situation.

United have so far turned down a player-plus-cash deal involving James Rodriguez from Los Blancos but reports suggest that the Madrid giants could return for the midfielder before the Spanish transfer deadline. The Red Devils, though, don’t have the means to register a new player with the Premier League transfer window already closed and they may want to delay any deal until January at the least.
