SAGNA HAILS DEFENDERS

Bacary Sagna has hailed the defenders of his team for their performance in the 2013-14 Season so far.

Arsenal became the league table toppers again yesterday by beating Fulham by 2-0 in a home game. It was the 10th occasion in the ongoing season that the Gunners didn’t concede a goal in the whole game and that’s remarkable. That clearly shows that the deep players of the team have been doing their job perfectly well.

Sagna who himself is a right back was talking to the reporters at the end of that Fulham game. When he was asked about Arsenal’s solid defensive show, he said, “When you don’t concede regularly, you feel confident as a unit.”

“We have got guys with some fine attacking skills and they will always create opportunities. So, if we don’t let the opposition score, we have a good chance of winning.”

“I am not saying that our defence is perfect. No, we can do even better in that department. But, what we have done so far is quite well.”

This might well be Sagna’s final season as an Arsenal player. He is reported to be unwilling to accept the short contract extension that was offered to him by the Arsenal management a few days back and he might opt to make an away move. There have been interests for him from Turkey and other parts of the world.

Sagna whose stay at the Emirates is about 6 and half years long has already represented the Gunners in 197 league games. He wants his contract to be extended by at least 3 years, but, the Arsenal management is not ready to do so and the main reason behind that is Sagna’s age which has gone over 30 now.
