REASONS ARSENAL FANS LOVED BACARY SAGNA
Frenchman Bacary Sagna enjoyed a good club career, which started at French team Auxerre in his teen years. The Ex-French international teamed up with Auxerre at the age of 15 and went on to make his debut as a professional at the club. He was at Auxerre when Arsene Wenger signed him in 2007 for a fee said to be around £7m. In the end, the transfer fee paid for him turned out to be a good one after the player spent seven successful years at the Emirates Stadium.
Bacary Sagna moved to Manchester City on a free transfer later that summer. Here are some reasons Arsenal fans loved Bacary Sagna during his time at the club:
1. His Goal Against Tottenham – One of the quickest ways to get into the good books of Arsenal fans is by scoring goals against rivals Spurs and Bacary Sagna managed to do that from his right-back position. His lone strike against Spurs during his Arsenal career was a very important one. The Frenchman started the fightback with Arsenal trailing 2-0 at home to Spurs. His header pulled one back and it served as the platform for the Gunners hit their opponents for five. Spurs arrived at the Emirates Stadium ten points clear of Arsenal in the race for third position and Champions League qualification. A win would have been unthinkable as Spurs would have moved 13 points clear. In the end, a 5-2 win reduced the gap to seven points and Arsenal went on to pip their rivals to third place and Champions League football. Fourth place didn't qualify for Champions League football that season after sixth-placed Chelsea took the spot for winning the competition that season.
2. His Hair – Bacary Sagna was a distinct player at Arsenal and his unique hairstyles played a big role.
3. His Physique – The Frenchman had a good fitness during his time at Arsenal buoyed by his physique. Sagna was undoubtedly a fine athlete when he was at his prime with the Gunners.
